Often, while working in Excel, we need to insert the current date.

Instead of typing it, rather use the available shortcut.  It’s fast and easy, and the date entered by making use of this shortcut is the current date as at the time of entry, it will not change or automatically update unless you alter the cell’s content.  It’s simply a shortcut for typing.

Press Control + Semicolon ( Ctrl + ; ) in the cell where you want to enter the current date.

In the same way the current time can be entered by using the shortcut.  This too is the current time of entry and won’t change unless you alter the contents of the cell.

Press Control + Shift + Semicolon ( Ctrl + Shift + ; ) in the cell where you want to enter the current time.

There are other ways to enter dates and times to make them dynamic, but these are simply good, quick, easy to use shortcuts for entering either the current date or the current time.
